About Arrive Outdoors

Arrive Outdoors helps you plan camping and hiking trips: when to go, what to pack, and how to stay comfortable and safe once you're out there.

Our story

Arrive Outdoors launched in 2019 as a camping gear rental service. The idea was simple — rent quality tents, sleeping bags and packs for a national or state park trip instead of buying gear you'd use once a year — and it worked with park partners along the way.

That rental service has ended, and Arrive Outdoors no longer rents gear. If you're looking to rent, our guide to where to rent camping gear covers the options available today, and the rent vs buy calculator helps you decide.

Today arriveoutdoors.com is an independent planning resource built around three things:

  • Free tools — packing lists, trail forecasts with a hike score, hiking time, water, sleeping bag and backpack calculators.
  • Destination weather guides — month-by-month conditions for popular parks built from 10 years of weather data, and a where-to-go-by-month ranking.
  • Practical guides — specific, checkable advice on camping, hiking, backpacking and safety.

How we work

  • Safety guidance follows the land agencies and health authorities (National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, CDC, Leave No Trace). When conditions or rules change often — fees, permits, fire restrictions — we point you to the official source instead of quoting numbers that go stale.
  • Weather data comes from Open-Meteo's historical and forecast APIs. Each tool page explains its formula.
  • We review guides each season and note the last update on every page. If something's wrong or out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

How we make money

Some guides link to products on Amazon and other retailers. If you buy through those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Nobody pays to be included, and our tools are free. Read the full disclosure.
